My People to People trip Summer 2006

Once a year, People to People Ambassador Programs invite a number of America’s exemplary students to journey as Student Ambassadors.

P2P learns about many of these students through recommendations from teachers, school administrators, and Student Ambassador alumni. They find out about others through national academic listings. These are the same listings that top colleges and universities use to find their outstanding applicants.

Invited students are asked to submit letters of recommendation and participate in an interview with local delegation leaders to gain acceptance into the program.

Students who are selected to serve as Student Ambassadors participate as a member of a 30- to 40-student delegation from their local region of the United States. Age-specific area delegations are formed for fifth and sixth grade students, middle school students, and high school students.

How the trip went...

Each day was different from the one before as I  got to know Paris, Rome, Athens and the bustling cities, historic villages and natural settings between them. I  got to experience the heart of Europe as an adventurer and a scholar.

In France I

  • Explored Paris with a stroll down the Champs-Elysees, the city’s renowned shopping district
and the final stretch of the Tour de France
  • Enjoyed a magnificent view of Paris from the Eiffel Tower
  • Came face to face with the “Mona Lisa” at the Louvre
  • Cruised the Seine and went inside the Cathedral of Notre Dame
  • Explored the Palace of Versailles, home of King Louis XIV
  • Enjoyed a French lesson and viewed paintings by local artists in Montmarte
  • Experienced everyday life in France at a European guest house

When I got to Italy I

    • Explored the ancient city of Venice by gondola to learn about life in this unique city
    • Enjoyed the Tuscan scenery on your way to Montecatini Terme
    • Took a guided walking tour of Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance and home to the world’s fourth-largest cathedral
    • Gazed upon Michelangelo’s “David”
    • Saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa
    • Took part in a day-long “Full-On” adventure
    • Walked through the columns of the ancient Roman Forum
    • Stepped back to the time of gladiators when I entered the Roman Colosseum

And last but not least....Greece! I

    • Cruised to Greece on an overnight ferry
    • Visited the ruins of Olympia where the original Olympic games took place
    • Heard the amazing acoustics at the Third Century Theatre in Epidaurus
    • Explored the ancient city of Athens
    • Walked around the ruins of the Parthenon on the Acropolis
    • Went island hopping in the Mediterranean Sea and visited the island of Aegina
